Haithabu - UNESCO-Welterbe - Luftbild | Am 30. Juni 2018 wurden Haithabu und das Danewerk gemeinsam als „Archäologischer Grenzkomplex Haithabu und Danewerk“ in die UNESCO-Welterbeliste aufgenommen. Die Stätte erfüllt die Kriterien (iii) und (iv) als außergewöhnliches Zeugnis der kulturellen Begegnung und als hervorragendes Beispiel eines historischen Ensembles. Heute vermittelt das Wikinger Museum Haithabu das Leben in der Wikingerzeit durch Ausstellungen und rekonstruierte Gebäude.
